About this fellowship

The Spencer Fellowship backs ambitious, research-driven stories that help the public understand education, and three fellows are chosen for each academic year. You apply online with a CV, a short autobiography, up to four work samples, a project proposal, a research plan and three recommendation letters. Judges favour applicants who can show a route to publication or broadcast, such as a book contract or a letter of interest from an outlet. Non-residential places go first to people for whom moving to New York would be a hardship.
