We're building We The Freelancers in the open. New listings are added regularly.

How we check listings

Every opportunity, grant and open call on the site is checked against the original posting before it goes up. This is what that means.

  1. We find the original posting

A post on a job board or social media is a lead, not a source. We follow it back to the employer's or organiser's own page, such as their careers site or applicant-tracking system, or their official page on a professional network when that's where they publish openings. That page becomes the listing's source, and the apply button goes there.

  2. We confirm it's open

The posting has to be live on the day we check, with a deadline, if there is one, that hasn't passed. The date we checked is shown on every listing as "Checked [date]".

  3. We read it for warning signs

We leave out anything that asks you to pay to apply, register or train; unpaid or "exposure" work; staffing agencies posting on an employer's behalf; and roles we can't trace to an identifiable organisation.

  4. We write the summary ourselves

Pay, location, work mode, deadline and requirements come only from the original posting. If it doesn't state pay or a deadline, we don't guess. The short description is written in our own words, so always read the full posting before you apply.

  5. We take listings down

Single job postings hide themselves 30 days after they were posted or last rechecked. We remove listings when the employer's page shows they've closed, and deadlines hide a listing automatically once they pass.

What a check doesn't cover

  • We don't handle applications, and we're not the employer. Contact and terms are between you and the organisation.
  • A posting can change or close after we check it. The "Checked" date tells you how recent our check is.
  • We can't vouch for how an employer treats freelancers. Use our scam checklist, and never pay to apply for work.
